A Brief Introduction
Wizard101 is a card-based strategy mmorpg. Battles are done in a battle circle: first, everyone chooses their card; then, the battle circles around until every participant has had their turn in that round (turn order is based on who enters the battle first). The player character is a wizard student at Ravenwood. From the main hub world of Wizard City, the player is able to visit all of the Spiral's differently-themed worlds in the main questline. Wizard101's overarching storyline is divided into distinct arcs.
There are also many side activities within the game, such as decorating houses, training pets, fishing, and more.
I love the creativity of the worlds and the story, the designs of the pets, mounts, and houses--but I just can not play it. It would be a waste of my time because the game is designed to keep you playing for as long as possible with battle systems that take forever and so many grinding quests. Games like this are way too easy to spend hours and hours and hours on, which is certainly not something I think is worth it if you do not find joy in the gameplay loop.
Regardless of the way this company extorts money from children, I do still respect the artists and writers working behind the scenes. The worlds are immersive and the character designs are appealing.
