A Brief Introduction
Owlboy
Platformer from an indie studio. Follows Otus, a boy learning to be an owl under his mentor and trying to save the world.
loved this it spoke to me, replay it in japanese sometimes for reading practice. Failure is a vital part of this game as you try harder and harder and harder. The cycle is endless and will consume everyone in time. No matter what you do, you fail, and you are loved.
It also seems that there are many mixed opinions surrounding this game. I think that at the time it came out, maybe metroidvanias were very popular and people were expecting one, but owlboy is not really a good metroidvania? I think it's more light-hearted to play, like Kirby. Owlboy was also in development for a very long time, with apparently meant a lot of things were scrapped because as trends shifted, Owlboy started to have less of a chance due to being off-trend, meaning that the creators would have to change many aspects of the game to give it a better chance of surviving once it was released.
But I am not sure, I do not know much about this; however, from my perspective, I can say that the game is very good and enjoyable--there were a lot of things I noticed about the game that were not ideal, but I think it is okay if you do not have too many expectations going in. You have to switch out the characters(weapons) that you are carrying many times, and I think it is fun to quickly pick them up and then haphazardly throw them off to the side while solving puzzles. I also love flying around and the characters. They are also all animals/animal-adjacent, so obviously that is a plus.
Twig
This is Twig, my favorite character!
SPOILERS
Out of the three main characters who are added to your entourage, Twig's ability is the most fun. With it, you can shoot enemies and quickly tie them up in one shot as opposed to Geddy's gun which is pretty weak for the majority of the game and Alphonse's blaster which takes time to charge. Plus, Twig's ability also allows you to move at a fast speed with invulnerability. I especially like its use in the snowy areas and Dirk's fight!
Twig is also just a very interesting character! I'm not sure what the intention is exactly, but his character involves issues of dressing up as a different species because you feel uncomfortable in your own body. I think he can be read as a trans, otherkin, or furry allegory. Not sure! :D He also seems to highly value companionship, even if it means working for the wrong people who treat him poorly.
I love this stick bug dressed as a spider so much <3
He is very Shaped.
